Volvo 240T Group-A, 1984.
Chassis-number : #245276. Production-number: 240 A 403.
Early 1984 Magnum Racing from Stockholm constructed a Volvo 240T Group-A racing-car for the Luna-Sportpromotion Racing Team. They had the intention to compete in the European Touring Car Championship against the dominating cars of BMW and Jaguar.
Gregor Petersson and Ulf Granberg were the nominated drivers for this car but later in the season Petersson decided to concentrate on managing the team and Robert Kvist from Sweden became the 2nd driver.
During practice for the 5th. round of the ETCC at Brno it had started raining and Robert Kvist went too fast and rolled the car several times. The car was severely damaged and was considered a total loss. The wreck of the car was returned to Volvo Motorsports.
In order to continue racing in the ETCC a new car was constructed for the Luna Sportpromotion Racing Team and that car was this particular car #245276. With this car Granberg and Kvist continued racing in the ETCC and only in Round 11 at Zolder they managed to do what Volvo had been hoping for all the time.
With this Luna-Sportpromotion car #245276 Ulf Granberg and Robert Kvist managed to stay ahead of the Schnitzer BMW’s and the TWR Jaguars.
After 107 laps they finished almost 8,5 seconds ahead of Hans Joachim Stuck and Dieter Quester in their Schnitzer BMW 635 CSi, followed by Tom Walkinshaw and Hans Heyer in their TWR Jaguar XJS.
This was the first win of the season for Volvo and also their first win ever in the ETCC.
In the 12th. and last round of the season Ulf Granberg managed a 2nd Overall with this car.
At the end of the 1984 season Volvo brought the car back to Volvo Motorsport in Sweden and they put the car in storage for a while. Soon after Volvo Sweden was approached by Volvo Portugal as they had 2 clients who had serious interest in buying 2 ex works cars. Soon after a black Lindstrom racing-car and this white Luna Sportpromotion racing-car left for Portugal where both remained until today and were mainly involved in National Championships and very well taking car of by their 2 proud owners.
